Danubiando - Budapest Tango Festival 2010
(29 August - 5 September)

In late August, Budapest is the place to go! The real heat has already passed, but it is still summertime. After the holidays the city is filled with buzz again, festivals are booming. This is the 9th time we are organizing a tango festival this time of the year, and this is the second to bear the name Danubiando.

After last year's tremendous success (which we didn't fully realize until quite a lot of people who did not attend last year - living half a planet away, from cities we never even heard about - ensured us of their participation this year) we immedately started organizing the next Danubiando. Unfortunately, some unforeseen complications (bad karma of some people) created a situation where we had to abandon our ambitious plans. However, we weren't allowed a holiday...the Hungarian community with unprecedented unison and our guests, Sebastian, Ismael and the cool guys in Otros Aires all offered us their help, so we could start again to organize Danubiando - changing the scale of things (compared to what we planned) a bit, hence the small addendum 'Lite'.

At the opening day Tango Marathon we'll dance around the picturesque downtown of Budapest (which resembles BsAs so closely that we can only recognize some travel photos when we see a Zapi logo in the background) and during the week we'll visit the milonga locations we love (and everyone else marvels) so much. There will be 7 concerts (5 of these during a milonga) and several performances throughout the week, including Argentina's Otros Aires, Serbia's Beltango and our revered Orquesta Típica Budapest and its sidekick, the Divertango Duo . This year's workshops are more intense and much more for the tango-nerd: only two teaching couples will host them, but instead of some unrelated workshops, it is going to be an entire course of interdependent classes. Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes along with Ismael Ludman and Maria Mondino will give you an immersion course in their art.

Beside the usual workshop+milongas, we have some other events you might want to participate in: a tango photography exhibition showcasing works by Hungarian photographers (mostly part of the tango community), a film club introducing some evergreens of the tango world (no dubbing), or if you need some time to socialize or chill, we are organizing an excursion to the world famous Turkish Baths of Budapest as well. In the meantime you can check out some of the performances by Hungarian stage tango dancers in a theatre to the music of Beltango (just before the Saturday milonga) or in a more 'tango cena'-like setting (right before the Wednesday milonga).

Our homepage is continuously being updated as new details become available. Follow our Twitter news feed or like us on Facebook - check out the Facebook event for Danubiando 2010 as well. All in all as Steve would say: stay tuned!
